The importance of regular check-up visits
As well as good oral care and hygiene at home, looking after your teeth should also include visiting your dentist regularly for check-ups. It is important that you have a check-up every six months, because they are essential to the maintenance of healthy teeth and gums.
To make sure that you don’t miss a routine check-up, our office will arrange appointments for you, and we will remind you by phone or email closer to the time.
During your check-up, we will evaluate the health of your teeth and gums, and examine your mouth for any indications of oral cancer, diabetes or vitamin deficiencies. We will also clean your teeth – paying special attention to plaque and tartar – and stress the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene. This is because plaque and tartar can build up in a very short time if good oral hygiene is not practised daily. Food, beverages and tobacco can stain teeth – also soft plaque, if not properly removed, will remain then harden and irritate gum tissue.
At the check-up we will give you excellent advice, and discuss any identified problems that require treatments or procedures.
